Briarheart Reviews: Bounty

Image result for doctor who earth and beyondIn 1998 BBC Books decided to experiment with Doctor Who short story anthologies and thus, the Short Trip was born. Later, BBC Radio published a set of cassettes featuring some short trips and an original story, all narrated by Paul McGann, called Earth and Beyond.

The first of three stories in the set, Bounty, takes place directly after the events of The Eight Doctors and it's actually very disappointing. It's a boring slog where this fugitive alien steals the TARDIS key for no reason and is killed by a T-1000 rip off. Oh and Sam gets poisoned for some reason I can't be arsed to remember.

If the story was slightly shorter maybe it would be better, but it's almost 45 minutes long and you feel every painful minute of it. I honestly can only think of one thing that I liked about this story and that was the fact that it was Paul McGann narrating it.

In conclusion, Bounty is a boring slog that I'd only recommend you listen to if you're a completionist. Otherwise, just save yourself the pain and skip it.
